Jackie Cameron After many years as a tax adviser with expertise in employee mobility Jackie Cameron left it all behind to set up Cameron Consulting. While studying for a post graduate diploma in Human Resource Management Jackie realised that she was particularly interested in all elements of workplace learning and how this was supported by employers. Her own personal development was always a high priortity and when she learned coaching skills as part of an employer sponsored leadership development programme she knew where the future lay. As a mother of two children – now young adults – Jackie values greatly what she has learned from them and many other young people she has met in a variety of contexts and situations. She especially enjoys working in schools, colleges and university with students at all stages of their studies and as a volunteer has supported a local men’s basketball for under 16s and 18s. In addition she represented the BOOST programme hosted by Morgan Stanley in Scotland which was aimed at getting people ready to go back into work. This gave her the opportunity to work with a variety of age and cultural groups and with people with disabilities and this confirmed that no matter the background anyone can learn and use coaching skills. From experiences of coaching for interviews and as a recruiter Jackie is aware that candidates are often not confident when asked to answer questions about their strengths or what they can bring to the job and they produce stock answers or say what they think the interviewer wants to hear leading to bad appointments to disappointing rejections. To address this she has developed a programme for personal awareness which uses coaching as a tool for finding the answers. Jackie mentors students and is an Associate Member of the Scottish Mentoring Network. The experience of working with young people brought her the opportunity to undertake a case study for the Scottish Executive Education Department as part of their Determined to Succeed initiative in Scottish schools. Jackie lives in her home city of Edinburgh with her husband Craig who is also her business partner.
